Today was Stake Conference for the wards in the Brighton Stake, and Michelle and I were supposed to be singing in the choir.  When we headed out of the house in the wee, dark hours of the morning to catch the bus to Brighton to meet our ride to the stake center, though, the elements were doing their very best to prevent us from advancing!   I have never, NEVER encountered such a wind!  It was like last week's wind in Brighton times 100--PLUS, it was was mixed in with sheets and sheets of rain.  As soon as Michelle and I stepped outside, our umbrellas folded over on themselves, horizonatally-flying torrents of rain hit us in the face, and our carefully-styled hair was "gone with the wind" in seconds!   I thought we were going to be swept into the middle of a raging hurrican for certain.  The wind was so strong that we couldn't even breathe, for Pete's sake!  We had wait for the bus in those conditions (and also in skirts and high heels) for about fifteen minutes, and once the bus dropped us off at the church, we had to wait another FORTY minutes for our ride to arrive.  I have never been in a situation like that before!  We were chilled to the bone, but we couldn't stop giggling about the whole thing.  We looked and felt absolutely ridiculous!  My umbrella was nothing but a broken, twisted mass of cloth and metal, Michelle's skirt kept blowing up completely, and all we could do to keep warm was sing and dance.  Eventually, we did make it to Stake Conference, and we felt like SUCH pioneers.  Take THAT, forces of evil!
